Q1. What is Love Is The New Religion about?
On the surface, it's a special-forces thriller — Commander James Wedmore and an
elite unit, the Black Widows, on a mission deep in enemy territory. But the mission
uncovers something no training could prepare them for, and the book becomes a story
about unconditional love as much as it is about war.

Q2. Why did you write a thriller instead of a straight memoir?
[DRAFT — Silas to answer in his own words.] A thriller let me put the ideas inside a
story people would actually want to keep reading, rather than a lesson. Fiction gave
me room to say some harder things than a memoir would have let me say directly.

Q3. How does your own story connect to the book?
In January 2015, three businesses I'd built closed, and I spent about three months
barely getting out of bed. Recovering from that — including cognitive behavioural
therapy and, at one point, an Ayahuasca retreat — is really where the book started.
I'm not trying to play the hero or recommend Ayahuasca as some kind of cure-all; it
was one part of my own path, not a prescription for anyone else's.

Q4. You've said you're mildly dyslexic and didn't do well at school — what was it
like writing a 116,000-word novel?
Honestly, it's the part of this I still find hardest to believe. It took almost
three years, starting in August 2015, and there were plenty of points where I didn't
think I had it in me. Putting my name on the finished book still feels vulnerable.

Q5. What do you hope readers take away from it?
